Forced rehab for Dutch drug offenders

Drug-addicted offenders in the Netherlands will be forced to undergo withdrawal programmes,
if necessary in closed institutions.

The Justice Ministry says two-year courses will initially be imposed by courts in 10
Dutch cities under a pilot programme that may go nationwide after six years.

Police say ther're aware of some 3,000 drug-addicted repeat offenders who routinely
commit break-ins, armed robberies and thefts to pay for their habits.
